Brenda, a teacher from Washington State, had a wonderful idea for introducing the five fact family in her classroom. She used a stick to knock down a deserted bee hive from an eve on her garage. Since it was winter, she was sure the bees were long gone.
When she was driving to school, she heard a buzzing sound coming from the bag containing the bee hive. Surprise, the bee hive was actually a wasp nest and a few of the little critters hadn't left for the winter, they were just sleeping. Luckily, the bag kept them from escaping.
Brenda decided not to bring the wasp nest into her classroom, but she said her kids loved hearing about her adventure. So, you might want to think twice about bringing a bee hive into your classroom.
