Nuts and Bolts (The Basics)

Some noted mathematics scholars have suggested that students don’t really need to know the times tables.  They argue that the process is all they need to understand. 

I totally agree that students need to know the underlying concept of what multiplication is, but I also see the importance of students knowing the multiplication facts. The number one complaint I hear from middle school and high school teachers is how students struggle with algebra, geometry, and other math classes when they don’t know the multiplication facts.
