This Spring Break, my family and I choose to read Theodore Boone: The Activist.
We loaded up the car and headed out for a little R&R on the beaches of San Diego.
This was no small adventure, we live 16 grueling hours away... that's over 753 miles! We wanted to make the most of every moment of our vacation that we could. We left at 4:30 a.m (thank goodness for 24 hour coffee shops).
In an effort to fill these 16 hours and 753 miles (both ways), we had lots of books, movies, TV series, snacks and plenty of iPhones.
The drive was great, it went surprisingly fast, until one of us ( my hubby) ended up with food poisoning on the way home. Naturally, that did not make for as pleasant of driving conditions.
Luckily, we had Theodore Boone: The Activist in the car. We began reading and couldn't stop until we had read every last page.
It's a wonderful book about a thirteen-year-old boy, his dog, his friends and their young detective skills. Growing up and spending many hours at his parents law firm, he is determined to win each "argument".
A member of the debate team and quite good at research, Theo is very good at putting together all the pieces of a puzzle. Especially the puzzle of the "soon-to-be new freeway" through his quiet town.
You will learn a thing or two about eminent domain, city council, the law, and the power of friendship.
Not only that, it will inspire young readers that they can make a difference.
