How Many Seeds in a Pumpkin? by Margaret McNamara is the perfect Fall book for your Math Library!
Charlie likes school, but he is the smallest kid in the class. When lining up for class, he feels little and self conscious.
Mr. Tiffin, Charlie's teacher, wants to teach the students a lesson about pumpkins.
He brings a large pumpkin, a medium pumpkin and a small pumpkin for the class to inspect. Mr Tiffin then asks the students to guess how many seeds are in each pumpkin.
After the students guess, Mr. Tiffin opens the pumpkins and allows the students to count the seeds while introducing math concepts such as estimation and counting in groups.
The biggest surprise to Charlie is not just which pumpkin holds the most seeds, but also the lesson in self-confidence he receives!
This book also includes lots of fun facts about pumpkins! Did you know that smaller pumpkins are sweeter and typically used for making pumpkin desserts? Or that it takes 4 months for a pumpkin to grow to it's full size?
With adorable illustrations and a likeable main character, your K-2nd Grade Students will love How Many Seeds in a Pumpkin?
