DIY Cookie Jar Gift Idea

Is there anything that says,  "I think you're awesome" like a batch of freshly baked cookies?

Yah, I didn't think so either.

The girls and I are often up to some sort of shenanigan.  The word 'shenanigan' is often used as a negative term, but in our house, it usually means that we are concocting some sort of idea to show daddy some love.  My husband works really hard and he's the only guy around these here parts, so we try to douse him with a great deal of love from us girls whenever we can. (Sorry, Chester-world' don't quite even out the male-female ratio)

One day we grabbed an empty coffee container and gave it a complete makeover to hold some delicious fresh-baked cookies.

Here's what we did:

We selected one of our empty Trader Joe's coffee cans.

After washing and drying it thoroughly, we peeled off the coffee label.   We were going to glue a patterned paper onto it, but we unanimously agreed on the natural look.  The brown finish is very modern--perfect for a shot of color here and there.  If you like more color/texture, you can glue wallpaper, scrapbook paper, or even the sports section of the paper to the entire outside of the container using Modge Podge,  Another idea would be to glue torn bits of paper to the sides.  This would be possible for the smallest of helper and its texture would be a feast for the eyes.

My oldest girl went to town with a sharp pencil, practicing her cursive handwriting.  We then went over the pencil marks with colored sharpies.

After adding a couple rows of dots along the top, we also hot-glued some pom-poms to the lid.

What a cheerful and scrumptious addition to my guy's desk at work! What do you think?
